1. Working on a piece right now but its hard so I may not finish it in time to post before I go to sleep. Its 1 AM here after all… Sorry for lack of art but its a holiday here and I am having technical difficulties.
Be in character as possible. This goes without saying. Read up on who you’re playing, even study a bit! Pinning down their personality is key to your success in the RP world.
Do not be emo or melodramatic. Certain characters may call for this, but rarely, if ever, overdo it. It’s okay to explore negative emotions and repressed feelings once in a while especially if they happened in the story. However, if you are making up your own events, keep them believable. Stick to real world problems.
Don’t fuck ALL the things. Really. As with real relationships, RP partners should rarely just delve into sex. You have to spend a bit of time growing accustomed to responses and knowing whether or not you enjoy their style or portrayal.
Give positive reinforcement. If you truly enjoy someone’s RPing, tell them! Oftentimes people can be put off when they are not complimented for how well they did. Humans have the basic need for acknowledgement.
Don’t fucking godmod for Christ’s sake.
Don’t always play the victim. In fact it’s usually better when you don’t play the victim at all. RPs are meant to be fun, impromptu and cooperative story-writing. If you are upset IRL, it’s best to either actually talk to someone OR talk to your partner about RPing an angst scene to help vent.
Do your best to make your replies match your partner’s. It’s only fair. If you are unable to keep up, talk to them and see how they feel about it.
BE. DESCRIPTIVE. Explore details! Mention your surroundings, your feelings, what the other character is doing! It’s hard to get wrapped up in RPs if your replies are just standard verbs.
Experiment with adverbs and adjectives. Grab a thesaurus! Or an online reference! DO YOUR BEST to not use the same descriptor/noun/verb in one post. It’s somewhat irritating.
Show, don’t tell. Instead of saying “he enjoyed it,” show his reaction! “His eyes lit up and he flashed a big, bright grin.”
NEVER NOT HAVE FUN.
OOC: And I have to add:
